How the Mississippi estimate works

Enter gross pay for one pay period, federal W-4 adjustments, and the state details shown above. Federal withholding follows Publication 15-T. Mississippi annualizes the paycheck, subtracts the exact Form 89-350 Line 6 exemption amount and the official standard deduction for the selected state status, excludes the first $10,000 of remaining taxable income, and applies 4% above that amount. The result and any agreed Line 7 addition are returned to the pay period using the state's required whole-dollar rounding.

Example: At $25,000 of annual wages, Single status, and a $6,000 Form 89-350 Line 6 exemption, Mississippi subtracts the $2,300 Single standard deduction. Four percent of the remaining taxable income above $10,000 is $268 annually, which rounds to $5 of weekly withholding. The calculator does not assume any unentered benefit deduction or invent a tax result.

Weekly, biweekly, semimonthly, and monthly are the supported paycheck frequencies. “Annual salary” is an earnings input and the annual view is a simple period multiplication; neither is an annual payroll-period method. The special Form W-4 adjustment for nonresident aliens is not modeled.

How does Mississippi paycheck withholding work? Mississippi uses the employee's Form 89-350 status and exact Line 6 exemption amount. The 2026 computer-payroll method applies 4% only after the official standard deduction and the first $10,000 of remaining taxable income, then rounds withholding to a whole dollar.
