How the Vermont estimate works
Enter gross pay for one pay period, federal W-4 adjustments, and the state details shown above. Federal withholding follows Publication 15-T. Vermont subtracts the exact W-4VT allowance value printed for the selected pay period, then applies the 2026 Single or Married percentage table and adds W-4VT Line 6. The employer-elected employee Child Care Contribution share is calculated separately at the entered rate from 0% through 0.11% of covered wages.
Example: The official Vermont example uses $1,800 of weekly wages, Married status, and two allowances. Subtracting two $103.85 allowances leaves $1,592.30; 3.35% of the amount over $226 produces $45.77 of Vermont income-tax withholding. At the maximum employee Child Care Contribution rate, the separate deduction is $1.98. The calculator does not assume any unentered benefit deduction or invent a tax result.
Weekly, biweekly, semimonthly, and monthly are the supported paycheck frequencies. “Annual salary” is an earnings input and the annual view is a simple period multiplication; neither is an annual payroll-period method. The special Form W-4 adjustment for nonresident aliens is not modeled.
What is Vermont's Child Care Contribution on a paycheck? Employers owe 0.44% of covered wages and may choose to deduct no more than one quarter—0.11%—from an employee. WageFrame asks for the actual employee rate because an employer may deduct a smaller amount or pay the entire contribution. It is separate from W-4VT income-tax withholding.
